Brown-Eyed Susan Cake

The yellow and brown (chocolate) marble cake is from the 1933 Betty Crocker New Party Cakes.  The Black-eyed Susan is the official drink of the Preakness.

The horse race has been held at Pimlico Race course since 1873 where the winning horse is draped with Maryland's state flower, the Black-eyed Susan.  The drink, started about 40 years ago with vodka, rum, orange and pineapple juices, is yellow in a tall glass. The recipe has changed often.

But back to the brown eyes....

  2. I have been making this cake from Betty Crocker (Brown Eyed Susan Cake) since 1967. My mom made it for me since my 6th birthday. It’s been a favorite in my family for years. Now my grandchildren are asking for it on their birthday.
